This fabricscape
is inspired by the
rich colours of
the Yukon showing an
aerial view of
Long Lake and
downtown Whitehorse.
The sand-
brushed DC3 what
“might have
been”. CF-CPY
is presently a
weathervane at
Whitehorse Airport.
Built in 1942,
she spent several
months in camouflage
flying with
United States
Army Air force on
transport missions
to India & China.
During this time
the aircraft was
condemned and
was eventually
returned to the
U.S. where it was
repaired. At the
end of the war she
was converted
to the Civilian DC-3
configuration
and sold to Canadian
Pacific Airlines
where she served 15
years flying
Canadian scheduled
routes, as CF-CPY.
She then spent 6 years with Great
Northern Air in
Yukon. On her
retirement in
1970 she was donated
to the Yukon
Flying Club and after
initial restoration,
to the Yukon
Transportation
Museum. CF-CPY’s
restoration is
a product of 1200
person hours by
30 volunteers.
This piece is
28” x 40” – fabric
background, matted
and framed with
sandbrushed glass
( DC-3 is on the
glass).
